Formalities

Buer is a healing entitiy who appears in the Lemegaton’s Ars Goetia. This text is also know as the Lesser Key of Solomon. Some say his origins are Germanic, others say Solomon was the first to speak of him, and others give entirely different accounts of his origins. Although Buer is often referred to as a “demon,” I am among those who believe him to be a god. An infernal god, perhaps, but this entity is god-level in power and ability and nothing less in my experience.

While Buer can be called with Solomonic methods and is unlikely to rebel if they are used, other methods work perfectly well. Sitting down and saying his enn a few times while gazing into and opening his sigil are likely the easiest ways of making contact. Buer is a spirit that typically delivers quickly–within days. And he is very true to the magician in terms of the services he is willing to provide. Buer is a spirit I have found will not violate nature though. With regard to offerings, time and commitment to a healing path seems to be something that Buer appreciates. If you can take some time to focus on healing yourself, another, or learning some healing (basics or advanced work) that will be greatly valued.

Let’s run through some common associations, but remember these are not set in stone preferences. As a president, his metal is mercury. Buer is also most often associated with orange (I’ve found green is a good substitute as it represents nature and healing), Storax incense (other woody scents are the best substitutes though some more than others), the planet Mercury, and the element fire. Buer & I

The first time I met Buer it was dawn, as he is a day daemon. I was sitting calmly on the floor facing South, and waiting for him to arrive as I gazed into his drawn sigil and said his enn. I had with me a picture of the human I wanted healed as well. He appeared all at once after making me wait a little while.

Icy coldness like a knife was the first feeling and the most intense that I encountered in my ritual. It began at the base of my neck and carved like a claw down my back outlining my shoulder blade. I looked back and felt a being other than myself but looked forward again and let the ice-touch continue uninterrupted. He told me to remove my necklace (one I’d gotten years earlier with the inverted pentagram and “Baphomet”). And he told me to state my business with him. He was formal and a bit intense, but never unkind. He did, however, refuse to work with another spirit which I believe was because they have drastically different personalities in that Buer is purely a healer.

He promised to begin the work nearly immediately and to have it finished with in short order. This ritual was one without incense, candles, or any of those things. As such, I when I asked what I could offer he said it wasn’t necessary but he would be pleased with my time. So for a week after I spent about 15 minutes a day practicing a minimalist healing rite on the target.

The target later told me that he had indeed felt something knifelike trace along his leg late that first night. He had been ignoring the pain for months and had a serious issue that affected his back, leg, ankle, and foot. Although spirits often present themselves in different ways to different people, it is pretty common for us to have similar experiences as well. This is true even for people who don’t practice magick, like this particular target. Beginning the next morning (Buer and I had discussed that his most intense healing occur over a three day period), he felt a change. Following this, I know that the target did not have more leg pain for months. He has not, to my knowledge, had a single issue with the leg at large despite medical advice that the pain would never completely fade and that there was a chance at probable indefinite discomfort and potentially worsening pain/condition.

Buer is one of my favorite spirits to work with because of the healing that he has brought to me and those I care for. He works quickly and is extremely helpful in the healing process whether it has been begun already or not. Before I called on him, I was concerned for this man’s ability to walk, to live without chronic physical pain. But Buer showed me there are other paths in life. Paths that bring about and foster healing. Over the last few years, I have worked with Buer several times in order to aid the wellbeing of a few people. His work is nothing short of amazing and to any who are interested in learning healing, being healed, or helping others heal I recommend calling upon Buer for guidance and delivery from whatever ailment might be the issue.

I have had one other experience that I would like to mention here. It was not my most recent encounter with Buer, but I believe it is an important one to share. This is “The Hierophant” written of in Knowing Before Death Knocks that Buer refused to heal. He said he would not undermine a person’s natural time of death and gave condolences as he told me healing was not always the answer, especially when someone was ready. Buer stayed with me late that night and informed me of the man’s passing. In the morning I received the official news. Buer has helped me heal many times and been an amazing teacher in the craft, but there are times the practitioner may not be able to have their way.

Buer has been an outstanding spiritual guide, friend, and teacher to me as he has been to many others. I was not very new when I began working with him, but I would recommend him to any practitioner in need of a little –or a lot of– health. He may refuse if the target is unwilling to stop actively making their problem worse or death has come knocking, but it’s much more likely that Buer will become a trusted spirit and healer.

Buer’s Appearance & Specialties

Appearance & Energy

Although I have not yet seen Buer appear before me in a complete and “concrete” way, I have felt his energy very deeply many times. When I have seen Buer, I see a yellow-orange light and the face of a lion. He has never before put on an intimidating or scary face for me and never appeared with loud noise as some other spirits do.

The energy that Buer appears to me with is cold and crisp. It’s as though the warmth leaves all the air around me and I feel his cold touch, almost like claws at times, touching me or piercing into my energy. This feeling is never particularly painful though, just a suggestion of an energy shift and a tangible touch.

Buer is usually calm and has a focused energy when he comes. It is often that I can tell where, around me, he is stationed. He likes to come and wait behind me for a few moments before moving to be in front of me. Of course, if you use a triangle in your practice this likely will not be the case for you.

Buer is said to regularly appear with a lion’s head (and mane) and moves in a circular fashion on cloven feet. Buer is a loyal spirit and it is unlikely he would ever try to deceive a magician. I have had one ritual that was interrupted by another spirit and had to banish, Buer was very gracious with me and returned when I called him moments later with his calm, present, and healing energy. Expect him to do his best in all workings because that is the type of spirit he is and his energy tells as much.

Specialties

Buer is a healing god. He heals all types of people and all types of afflictions. He works quickly and remarkably. The one thing that should never be asked of Buer is baneful workings. As healing is his office I would like to highlight this means especially baneful work that cause illness and/or death.

In my experience, Buer will not break the laws of nature to heal a person, but he will within their constraints and within his own morals save lives and heal afflictions of any person in need. What this means if that if someone is slated for death, he will not go against this fate to heal them and bring them back into good life-saving health. In some cases, if a person does not want to be healed or continuously refuses to work toward lessening their own pain he will refuse them aid. An example would be a smoker that everyday chooses, without even feeling the need, to smoke more than the day before despite Buer’s aid.

Especially with healing magick, it’s important to remember humans are humans and our bodies have specific parameters they function within.

In the vast majority of cases Buer is called for, healing can be expected to begin with 24 hours. Depending on the ailment he’s being called about, it can take longer for the full effects to settle down. For example, if he is being called to ask for help with an addiction, it may take longer than a week or two. If he is being called to help with diet management (eating more, less, or simply more balanced) it may take weeks for the person to fall into better habits. If he is being called for mental health it is important to let this take its time because going from one mental extreme to the other is not healthy for anyone. And if he is being called for other bodily injuries, like a broken leg or a blood clot among others, expect him to speed up the healing and keep pain relatively low but not to fix the issue completely within a couple days, although he may in some cases do just that. Especially with healing magick, it’ important to remember humans are humans and our bodies have specific parameters they function within.

Buer can also be called to aid in energy workings. This is a really amazing use of his talents and energy. The healing also usually occurs quicker when a practiced (energy) healer is directing their “own” energy. Buer is a spirit that values a practitioner’s commitment to their craft and their goals; meditating daily for a short amount of time, using different techniques, reciting mantras or affirmations for a period, and doing energy work specific to the target are all great ways to show dedication and usually ensure faster healing time.

Buer is, overall, an excellent healer. That aside, he is also magnificent at reassuring practitioners of their path, inspiring practitioners to learn healing, teaching healing, and bring genuine calmness and surety to the magician.

Buer can also help one to understand morals, philosophy, and the natural world. I believe Buer to be wonderful on the topic of morals, it is clear to anyone who has worked with him a few times that he has a strong code of morals he is more than willing to share with the magician. On the topic of philosophy, simply listening can be amazing as Buer has a wealth of knowledge that could be construed as much more than our modern definition of philosophy. The natural world is both an accumulation of “philosophy” and also includes topics on how the world works (think physics), nature, and naturally occuring magick. As with many spirits, their offices highlight their personal interests, but do not encapsulate the entire spirit’s abilities.
