Curse Work

Curses are among the very first types of magick I tried out in the beginning, and since then have become an interesting way to measure my success, test my belief in my practice, and a very motivating method for continuing my practice. While I don’t often do curse work for personal situations, sometimes they feel more than a little bit necessary and oftentimes meaningful for more than just a couple of reasons. Curses are a very important part of my practice and somewhere I believe that many of my founding principles and methods have grown from.

Curse workings have been traditional benchmarks of my practice, representing growing beliefs, understanding of magick, and goals. While some of the curses I’ve cast I’ve not been able to see results of, I’ve found that logging results (at regular intervals) has been astoundingly insightful. A very prominent turning point in my craft came from a curse where, jokingly, I thought, in ritual I asked the spirit present if worms could (really) be found within humans. It wasn’t that week, or even that month, but sure enough I got a call that had me wondering, then, what couldn’t be done. This is where my curse work began taking a closer look at traditional curse practices, in addition to those that felt more intuitive to me and those I’ve learned from spirits I work closely with.

Whether you’re in a situation where you need a strong binding with a bit of a sharp edge, or someone has been cruel and you’re seeking to “reward” this behavior with something uncomfortable or problematic for them, curses are often a good place to turn.
